Well, there we have it – an evening of mixed results. A chilly evening for some, although less noticeable when actually racing.
Congratulations to Simon Berogna for taking the win. Congratulations to Rosie for going under the 30 minute barrier and putting in a PB for a 10. That’s some doing on that course and at this time of year. Many thanks go to the time keepers & organisers who give up their time to support us.
If we’re unlikely to get a PB or even a good time, why are we racing? Well, there are many reasons. I know I’m unlikely to get a PB, but I track my results and compare them to previous years to see how I’m progressing. Doing the early TTs also allows me to train into the 10’s when the weather improves and give a greater chance of a good time. Turbo work is great, but it doesn’t replace the on-the-road stuff. Even getting out for a road ride is not the same as doing a 10, so the weekly tests help gauge how well the training is (or isn’t!) going. Also, doing the weekly 10’s supports a club that is still putting on these events at a time when they are fast disappearing.
Plus, results aside, it’s great to catch up with other riders and hear of their training and plans – like a week abroad where the weather was worse than in the UK, didn’t know that was actually possible! Or a rider off to do the 312 – hope that goes well.
Finally, after all that ramble – the results!!
