Riding and Racing

The Hampshire Road Club organises a comprehensive season of racing during the summer months (beginning in early April, ending in late August) which revolves mostly around the ‘Evening 10s’ – a series of 10 mile time trials on the back roads to Chichester. There are also 2 ‘Hilly 20s’ on a gruelling circuit via Harting Hill. We also take part in the Clonmore Trophy (a 25 mile team time trial) and the Annual Hill Climb in November. A trophy is awarded to the Road Club member with the highest points score at the end of the season and there is a handicap competition which is adjudicated by Bert Nancarrow as no-one else understands the rules. This leads to friendly competition throughout the year and a considerable amount of banter, some of it good-humoured. The club time trials are open to allcomers – sign up & see how fast you can complete the course!

In addition, there are club runs on a Sunday morning in the off season organised by Alun Tribe, a 50 mile time trial as part of the Portsdown Time Trial League and an Open 10 mile time trial in May.

Paul Whitehead organises Audax rides throughout the season and there is track cycling available at the Mountbatten centre on Wednesday and Friday evenings at 18.30 (allcomers) and 19.30 for track bikes (hire available).
